Classics is an inherently interdisciplinary field, incorporating the areas of history, archaeology, language, literature, philosophy, and religion.  It aims to provide an understanding of the dynamic of ancient Greek and Roman culture, both intellectually and materially, and its relevance to contemporary life.  The Classical Studies Program at Lehigh explores Greek and Roman culture from multiple perspectives and approaches that utilize varied methodologies of the social sciences and the humanities. It offers language study that allows direct access to the creative thinking of the Greeks and the Romans.  It thus provides students the tools to assess both broad cultural and historical movements and personal, individual expressions of the Greek and Roman world.
